Only once; a Haiku of life by Roy Lindquist

winter glory

we meet
in a moment
just now

This is only at this moment we live, and only in this moment we meet. Tomorrow is not borne. Thanks my friend!

Stare of Bethlehem: by Roy Lindquist

( click  on photo to enlarge)

thousand stars
in the never ending universe
child enjoy

thousand stars
confuse
old mans fear

boat of life
need direction
stare of Bethlehem

I am tired of searching all the answerers, the "Old book" still is the leading stare in the universe of all the questions in the world. There is so many "is-ems" like atheism...but all is about beliefs. Those who say: I dont belief there  is any God, they too own there own belief. Atheism is a belief too! If you believe in "nothing", then that's your belief...its a belief, ore your sort of religion...emptiness .

This is an English haiku ( not Japanese)

Days in darkness; Haiku by Roy Lindquist

mist of joy
cure the bitterness
of vastest life

universe breath
in totality
suzumushi song

closed eyes
listen in the darkness
life complied

I have had days of sorrow and days in darkness, the loss of my dog was more difficult than I first thought. Life looked dark and sky was hidden and I found it hard to continue writing. Then I had to think of the glory of life just in a tiny insect....

Ikebana - death; Haiku......

all life
is sacred
tiny flower

death occurs
when the stem of the flower
breaks

Ikebana
admiration of death
 cruelty

- - - - - - -

gentle waltz
early autumn leaf's
 distant admiration

Haiku by Roy Lindquist

As I am getting older, I feel all life is sacred, and even cutting flower's make me feel I shorten a life I am not allowed to do.
Its possible this is very controversial to say, but I cant stop thinking of it...
We admire a beautiful flower arrangement like Ikebana, but what do we really admire.....
I like better then Bonzai ( perhaps ) ....

This is unique I think ...a blue aquarium...live:

Tanka ( poem): by Roy Lindquist

Painting: Dan Sekikawa, Tokyo 2009
From dust to dust:

leaf's change
red - yellow -brown
northern wind whisper
end of time
sleep my friend

death leaf
cover the ground
child playfully fly his kit
autumn blue sky
continuity

don't cry
death leaf
once a playful soul
life accomplished
earth still young

molecule dance
in orbit sky
never ending glory
from dust to dust
don't be sorry

Mothers last song: Tanka by Roy Lindquist

postludium
page turned back
memories
joy and pain
once a child
dancing marry-go-round

mountain hidden
fog so thick
eye stare - vain fore glimpse
mothers smile
searching fore plum blossom

autumns leaf's
tree nearly bare
hiding footsteps of the child
who once
was there

stradivarius
switched on memories
flash of a forgotten smile
heart taken pain
teardrop in wrinkled hand

mothers grave
moss covered stone
suzumushi ring the bell
call fore memento
old love lies deep

My Mother Ruth died 1963

Tanka ( poem): by Roy Lindquist

Butterfly in winterland:

joyfull child
across the field
catching butterfly in here hands
memories vague
Okinawa long gone

last path
sunshine gracefully ride
on mountain top
last remains
in a white box

silent walk
to resting place
winter land far away
Okinawa long gone
forgotten child

Butterfly in winter land
carried in my hand
last path
in deep silence
white chrysanthemum

Today I carried the ash of a women from Okinawa to here grave in Norway at a funeral. I feelt deep sorrow and thought of here childhood back in Japan. Given the honor to carry it the last footsteep down to the restingplace beside here son who drowned sixteen years ago...
Lonesome, but not forgotten - she was a Butterfly in winterland

Tanka ( poem): by Roy Lindquist

crows chase
eagle in laud coarse
rainclouds hang dark
above the hut
poet rise his head wondering

borne in winter month
life affected by darkness
death always
cast shadow
on writers mind

crowded graveyard
still waiting
for the sun to shine
crows gathered
waiting for poets hand to rest

This is my first attempt to write Tanak.
I know the poem is a bit depressing, but
this is something that is always hanging
over my head as a shadow....
Its written after a real episode yesterday.

Memories of "Kimiko" 2009; Haiku by Roy L

Memories of "Kimiko" 2009:

sunrise born
died in frozen world
distant shore

tears empty
fruit of life long gone
left alone

no grave
can bury sorrow
shadows flowers

once a dream
smashed by life so dear
no stars

I was sad when I learned that a Japanese women died a few days ago in Norway. I knew here, and here sad story. Here name is different from the original in my writing because of the family, but the story is true.
Once a smiling japanese girl, who fell in love with a seaman from the land of the Northsea, far away from here home. Here dream was all broken, and everything went wrong. Son drowned in young age, divorsed and left alone in a winterland with strangers. Here grave will be nexst to here son. I belive there is many such "dreams" that ende like this...to sad....

Haiku by Roy Lindquist

Thise Haiku are from real experience in Japan in 1969, not far from Kamakura. I was staying in the country side, and below the house was ricefields and frogsong. I often think of that time and whish I could turn the clock back and once more listen to the song and watch the green rice fields....the dream of return of that moment recalls tears in my eyes.

The Haiku road can be difficult uphill, stony and rocky towards the plain in the open landscape. I often need a cane to support me. My friend Hiruta Hidenori in Akita International Haiku Network, has been a great help and inspiration towards my writing. many thanks to him!

"My grandmother house" by Fujieda Teruo

old lodging
even poor
reach heavenly sky

the old grandma's lodging

even poor
by love reach the heavenly sky
memory of a child

grandmothers love
don´t disguise
true richness

nor rich nor poor
old mothers love
don't disguise true richness

poor shed
unconditional love
child don't forget

mansion ore poor women's shed
love has same condition
in the heart of a grandchild

My grandmother was not rich, she lost here home during the ww2, and husband too. The house was bought of the natziz. But she learned me that love overcome everyting and put wealth and poor doom in the shadow... my Japanese touch of this my memories are made and coverted into a Japanese setting, which is half fiction and mostly true. But the real thing happend in Norway.

Katakoto and Dôshin - Haiku by Roy

sophisticated words
in abstract dance
float ahead into the sky

innocent child
play with words
so easy that even an adult smile

words create pictures
man remember in pictures
and the words dies

I have learned that man thinks in pictures, explain in words to replica his own thought to another individual, who then again store an image in his own photo library. When more defuse the messages are, then the picture can change totally and become quit different than from the original.
I agree some think this is the art of the intellectuals, the high class art for the "upper circle" of artists and public!
There is a saying in the bible: "If you don't become like a child, you will not enter into the heaven"....
I have worked for many years with children and adults in preaching the Gospel in Sunday school and Churches and learned that if you speak to an audience as to a child, everyone will understand. But if you try to be very intellectually and very sophisticated, trying to overcome another intellectual preacher and his speech, you end up in the sky and over the head of the listener. Making pictures gets more complicated.
Which poem and which speeches do you remember most? That's the one you have the clearest picture to store in your mind.

Why HAIKU by Roy Lindquist

WHY HAIKU ?

Life is like
footsteps in wet snow
gone tomorrow

There is so much beauty in this world, and most of the most observation we do, is small tiny pictures of a second who is like a shooting star and can only be catched in a poem like Haiku.

I feel I am like a Koi ( Japanese goldfish) swimming in a small pond alone, and my only company is the sky above the surface of the water...more like a lonely poet.

I fall in love of Haiku by a New Year card from my friend in Japan who wrote in Kanji shodo some years ago.

Haiku words is dancing elegant on the paper in the most beautiful writing that gives words the dobble artistic feeling, first for the eye and then for the ear, and at last for the mind ( read; heart)

Thanks to Mr Isao Shinozaki - translator
